Many of the resources in 23 things were new
to me and so it has been an encellent way to
discover these tools. Web 2.0 will play an
important role in the shaping of Libraries.
The tools I will use on a regular basis
are Delicious and Librarything.
My only experience of wikis has been using Wikipedia
which I do have trust in (although not 100%). After
seeing the promotional videos I do think I will
investigate their wider uses.
Podcasts are useful for catching up on programmes
I may have missed. I rarely look at Youtube. I don't
think I would consider using these applications
for Library purposes.
I don't think I would use google documents over any
of the applications found on Microsoft Office.

Marketing our Library services is an important
issue and involves making sure readers don't
miss out on what we have to offer.
Connecting users via Web 2 offers some options
such as starting up a Facebook page. I will also
be including some of the features in 23 Things
in our inductions for the next academic year.
Zotero is a piece of referencing software I have
recommended to students in inductions.
I do think that Librarything would be a good
resource to use for home cataloguing.
I don't use LinkedIn mainly because I don't
know anyone on it.

I have previously set up a Linkedin page but
rarely use it and do not think it's a tool
I will use in the future.
I set up a personal Facebook page earlier this
year and dip in and out of it. Having a Library
page is something we have been considering.

LibraryThing is very user friendly and ideal
for setting up a catalogue for a small collection
of books - but I would not use it for
Departmental Library purposes.

The main reason for doing 23 Things has been
to pick up ideas that I can pass onto my users.
There have been a few suggestions that I will
include in the Library inductions for next term.

I can see how Delicious can be helpful in
making favourites accessible from any machine.
The way that Emma has chosen and organised her
favourites seems to be a good advert for using
Delicious in an efficent and effective way.
Slideshare is an effective way of sharing powerpoint
presentations. I looked at a couple of the Arcadia
lectures which I was unable to attend and found that
generally I could follow the presentation even though
I was not at the live showing.

Idlethink's set of photographs on Flickr
are excellent. I think Flickr's a good
use of the Web for sharing photos.
Sometimes pictures do convey more than
words.

Tags, labels and links seem to be
an efficient way of organising and
retrieving information from the Web.
Interesting to see how Yahoo and Google
developed as the Web expanded.
I opened a Twitter account after attending a
session with Emma at the UL. I look at it from time
to time but think it's limited in what it has to offer.
I have read some interesting posts though.
Although Doodle and google calendar seem to
be user friendly and straight-forward to
access I don't think I will use them to
replace my current methods of date keeping
and e-communications.

Things 5 and 6 now added. The instructions for
each thing are very clear and help make the
process much easier.

First steps

This is the first blog in connection with 23 things.
I have briefly used Facebook and Twitter but not regularly.
23 things may encourage me to use Web 2.0 more often.
